Frequently Asked Questions

Standard 4-string bass tuning is E A D G, from lowest to highest. These are the same notes as the guitar's four lowest strings but one octave lower. E1 = 41.2 Hz, A1 = 55 Hz, D2 = 73.42 Hz, G2 = 98 Hz.

Bass strings need clear, sustained notes for accurate detection. Pluck near the bridge for a brighter tone that's easier to detect. Let each note ring for 2-3 seconds. If detection is inconsistent, try plucking harder.

Drop D bass tuning lowers the E string to D (36.71 Hz). This gives you a lower range and makes certain patterns easier. It's common in rock and metal where guitars also use Drop D.

Tune from the thickest string (E) to the thinnest (G). After tuning all strings, check them again - bass neck tension changes as you tune, which can affect other strings.
