How to Tune Your Chromatic

A chromatic tuner detects all 12 notes of the chromatic scale (C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B), making it work with any instrument. Play a note and the tuner shows which note it is and how sharp or flat.

  1. 1Click 'Start Tuning' and allow microphone access
  2. 2Play or sing any note on your instrument
  3. 3The tuner displays the detected note and how many cents sharp or flat it is
  4. 4Adjust your pitch until the meter centers and shows green
  5. 5This tuner works for any pitched instrument - guitar, bass, violin, trumpet, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

A chromatic tuner detects all 12 notes in Western music (C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B). Unlike instrument-specific tuners that only recognize certain notes, chromatic tuners work with any pitched instrument.

A440 means the note A above middle C is tuned to 440 Hz. This is the international standard pitch reference. Our tuner uses A440, which is standard for most modern music.

Cents measure pitch accuracy. There are 100 cents between adjacent notes (like C and C#). If the tuner shows +15 cents, you're slightly sharp; -15 means slightly flat. Within ±5 cents is generally considered in tune.

Yes! The chromatic tuner works with any pitched instrument: brass (trumpet, trombone), woodwinds (clarinet, flute, saxophone), strings (violin, cello), voice, and more. Just play a note and the tuner detects it.
